Rain as cold as Hades thundered from the sky with so much power, I could no longer discern where the ocean stopped and started. A fierce gust of wind whipped ropes of my wet hair into my face, tugging on me with fervour. Still, I held steadfast with the trident never once slipping from my grip. My magic pulsed through me, the feeling familiar and foreign at the same time.

The ocean roared and wild waves swelled as they rushed ashore but I didn't feel scared. There was tremendous beauty in the freedom of the water and its display of raw power. It made me feel proud to serve as Poseidon.

A faint voice called my name and at first, I wasn't sure if it was the wind or I was imagining it.

"Aura!"

That sounded real.

I turned slowly, spots dancing in front of my eyes. It took me a moment to concentrate on the figure in front of me.

It looked like Kate but why would she be out here during a storm?

I stumbled towards her, my legs feeling like lead. "What are you doing here? It's storming!"

She cupped her hands around her mouth. "I can tell! Come inside!"

A large wave crashed against the back of my legs and a freezing chill shot through me, adding to the dizziness. I hadn't realised how tired I was or how heavy the trident was in my hand. Maybe it was time to go inside.

I waded to shore, almost tripping over my own feet. Kate rushed forward and caught me before I hit the sand, her arms strong and warm.

"How long have you been out here?" she asked.

"Not sure." I shivered and she hugged me tighter. I clung to her like she was a life raft or a rock. I know I shouldn't rely on her like this but I was too tired to fight myself. She was here, she wanted to help, that was good enough for me.

She took the trident from me, lessening the load. "Let's get you inside."

I shivered. “Okay.”

“No protest? I should’ve collected you sooner,” she joked, the concern clear in her voice. She guided me towards the shore, her concern reaching me through my freezing cold exterior. Of course, it was her. It was always her.

My feet sank into the wet sand with every step like the ground was melting.

"My shoes!" I shouted.

"Leave the shoes!"

The rain came down like a merciless assault and it took everything to climb back up the dunes to the temple. I slipped once and Kate held me up as we scrambled for the entrance. It wasn't until we were inside and the rain stopped that I realised just how drenched my clothes were. I was cold and wet to the bone and I couldn't stop shaking no matter how much I tried to control my arms and legs.

"Let's go upstairs." Kate's arm wrapped around me. "Aura, come on, let's get you into bed. You're shaking."

My teeth clattered as I nodded. The marble floor was slippery under my feet and I was glad when we reached the carpeted area of the lift.
